Be Bold
On Sept 12th 1962 President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech about his dream of getting a man on the moon. Here are some main points:
The moon is 240,000 miles away
The rocket would be more that 300 feet long (bigger than a football field)
New metal alloys - some of which have not been invented yet - would be needed and able to withstand heat and stresses several times more than ever has been experienced. (italics mine)
It needed to be fitted together better than the finest watch
While carrying all the equipment needed for: propulsion, guidance, control, communications, food and survival.
It would be a untried mission to an unknown celestial body and return safely to earth
Re-entering the atmosphere at speeds over 25,000 miles per hour, causing heat half the temperature of the sun (45,000 degrees)
BE BOLD
Can you imagine?!? President Kennedy was declaring this and some things he needed to have to accomplish it wasn’t even available yet! Talk about an insurmountable task. And when he was done speaking and laying all that was needed the crowd clapped and cheered. Did anyone think: “This man is nuts?” “How in the world is that even possible?”
After quarantine; Covid; all the losses and the huge change and impact it has had on everyone, I find myself wavering in my faith to believe - to dream.
Oh, I say: “I’m holding things loosely”, which is true but I have come to recognize part of it is I’m afraid to hope. To dream. My expectation is that it probably won’t happen or it will have to be so different than what I wanted, so why have faith? Why spend the emotional energy to just be disappointed again?
And yes, in the light of all eternity it probably doesn’t matter that some of my kids couldn’t come for Christmas. Or that there are whole nations that are suffering, hungry and in turmoil.
But, the challenge laid before me was I’m no longer believing like I did. My dreams and hopes have gotten smaller. I don’t want to live a small life.
Where are you at with all that? Am I alone in feeling depleted and deflated in my faith? Odds are I’d make a lot of money on a bet that I wasn’t alone.
When we look at the lives of those in the Bible, they were all asked to take a step toward something they had no idea what it was going to be like or how it was going to happen. I know that in my life there have been many moments of shakey first-steps and “Are You sure about this?” questions.
So, If you’re like me with faltering faith let’s get a booster ;) see what I did there ;) of faith from God’s Word:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:7
“Then Jesus said to the disciples, Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” ~ Mark 11:22-24
“I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:5 (italics mine)
“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” ~ Matthew 21:22
“For the word of God will never fail.” ~ Luke 1:37
Talk about taking a bold step of faith…Americans got behind President Kennedy with his dream to put a man on the moon, before they saw a rocket and before they had all they would need to accomplish it. Surely we can believe in the God of the universe, the creator of the moon and Who gave man the wisdom and creativity to do all we have done. We can believe Him for what we are holding in our heart and are afraid to even say out loud.
We can believe in the God, who pursues us, because of His fierce love for us. And not because everything will turn out they way we hoped or even believed for, but because we can trust HIM!!!!!! We can even trust Him with our disappointments and hurts.
So, I’m going to be bold in my prayers - with my dreams and hopes - I hope He’s ready! :)
Who’s with me?!?!?!
I hope you have a faith-filled-see-dreams-come-true day!
All My Love ~
