Wisdom

Life requires more wisdom than knowing how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. If only life was that simple. The answers we get are based on the questions we ask. We need to be asking better questions. We need the wisdom of Solomon to navigate these uncharted waters.

It can be overwhelming knowing that we have been shoulder-tapped to walk through all that is facing our nation and world. But we have, so we need to serve and lead well. How will history tell the story of how we handled this time?

Wisdom:
1 Kings 3 tells us that the newly appointed King Solomon was in Gibeon and God asked him for what he wanted. King Solomon, knowing he was a young man and did not know how to rule said: “so give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (verse 9)

King Solomon shows us it’s ok to not know it all or even feel confident in the place we find ourselves and that we can ask for wisdom.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

“Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow.” Proverbs 3:6 CEV

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6

Isn’t it amazing to know that if we need wisdom for anything we are facing, all we have to do is ask?!

”I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.” Ephesians 1:10
Revelation = uncover, to bring to light, reveal, make plain-particularly what is inside; disclosure.

We need God to reveal and uncover things in our heart: our motives, our fears, our ambitions …all of it. Asking the Holy Spirit to show us (reveal, uncover, disclose) blind spots, attitudes out-of-whack, etc., will keep us honest.

“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.” 1 Kings 4:29
God gave Solomon all the wisdom in the world, but somewhere along the line, Solomon lost his hunger to do what was right.

“As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods…So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD; he did not follow the LORD completely, as David his father had done.” 1 Kings 11:4,6

Even though his position, his wealth or his influence did not change, his heart did.

Solomon allowed the culture and those around him to change how he believed and acted. He became more concerned about pleasing his wives over pleasing God. He became more interested in feeding his desires than staying faithful to what God said.

How are we doing with that? Are we allowing God to speak to us and keep us biblically grounded? Are we allowing culture or other’s opinions dictate too much on how we make decisions, what we make excuses for or the choices we make?

Before your next decision, take a beat and ask God for His wisdom. When you are having a quiet moment, take a breath and ask God to reveal something to you.

He wants to lead and guide us, as well as tell us how much we are loved and cherished. Sometimes we may hear something we need to work on, but that’s because He loves us so much and wants the best for us.

You are loved and seen!

All my love ~
