We Needed Jesus.

The other night we watched “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” with Jaydon and Jayme. Jayla kept running in asking: “What is happening?” So we would tell her and she would say: ““Why not?” Which, in Jayla, means “How come?” :) We made a special memory that night and I now know that I will not be taking them to a theater any time soon. ;)

As we talked through the movie connecting Aslan to Jesus and what He has done for us, it made me stop in the wonder of it all. AND what a perfect time to remember all that Jesus did at Christmas.

I watched the look of both sadness and determination cross Aslan’s face, when he came face to face with why he came. He knew what he was going to face. He knew the pain, humiliation and hatred he would endure, but he still came. He came with intentionality and purpose.

I then thought of a woman who goes to the hospital to give birth. She knows why she is going and that she will not leave until the job is done. She walks in with intention and determination. She can’t quit mid-labor and say: “That’s it, I’m done!” no matter how much she may want to. She will fight pain, discouragement and exhaustion. She will endure back-breaking pain and fight with every contraction to birth the baby. A baby she will love and continue to give her life for.

I am overwhelmed about that as I think about Christmas. Before we could have Easter, we needed Christmas. We needed God to be so intentional with sending Jesus. We needed Jesus to be so intentional on why He was here.

Without that, we would be left on our own in a place of hopelessness. A place that’s “always winter but never Christmas”. Where fear and tyranny rule. We needed God to have a plan for us.

It’s a rescue story wrapped in a love story.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
Isaiah 9:2

Aren’t you grateful for that?! Same!!!

I think about the Shepherds in the middle of the night. Darkness and quiet surrounding them when suddenly, the night was lit with the light of heaven and angels singing. Talk about shock and awe!

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.”
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were terrified.”
Luke 2:8&9

But what about us? What about when we are surrounded by darkness and we are overwhelmed by our midnights? Do we remember that God hears our cries; our brokenness; our questions; our fear and answered by giving us His Son! We are surrounded by His Life, Love and Light guiding us.

This is our God. Our God, who by giving us Jesus, has broken down our prisons of guilt and shame. He is our God who tore down the walls that separate us from Him. We needed Christmas. We needed Jesus.

I believe in Him! I believe He has my good in mind! I believe that He can be trusted! Because…a God that has planned e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. out, even to the smallest detail, years before it needed to happen…that God can handle my life. He can handle your life. We needed Christmas. We needed Jesus.

I don’t know what your midnight looks like. I don’t know what you whisper in the dark and quiet places. BUT God does. He sees you. He heard you. He answered you. Because it’s a rescue story wrapped in a love story, He sent Jesus. We needed Christmas. We needed Jesus.

Rest in His arms this Christmas! You are loved. Jesus came for you.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I will see you in January.
