The Ultimate Name Drop

You know the saying, “It’s who you know.”? “It’s who you know that can get you into that college.” “It’s who you know that could get you that job.”

Matthew 16:15-17 tells us about a time Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was.
”Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.’” (All italics mine)

People were curious about who Jesus was but not very many got it right. Some were caught up with Jesus being Mary and Joseph’s son and just a carpenter. Some thought Jesus would rescue them from Rome’s rule. Some saw Him as a threat to their standing and religion with all their rules and laws.

I think we need to ask ourselves the same question because our answer will determine how we live our life.

Mark 5:7 tells us when Jesus healed the demon-possessed man, the demon let it slip who Jesus was:
”What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!”
I wonder if anyone caught that declaration or were they still slack-jawed about what just happened.

Then in Matthew 4:3 after 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, Satan asked Jesus: If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

How is it that Satan and demons knew Jesus was the Son of God but until Peter clued in, not the people around Him. Maybe, like them, we get caught up with life and all that is happening, we miss the miraculous walking beside us.

We know the importance of the first born son in that culture and how he carried all the authority of his father. If the son said he was sent by his father about a transaction or to deal with a situation, it was if the father was there.

That is what is being declared here by these three different accounts. Jesus being the Son of God has the same authority as God does. He has the same power as God does. He has all the resources that God does.

“If anyone acknowledges that
Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in them and they in God.”
I John 4:15

When we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God comes and lives with us!!! I mean, doesn’t that just seem unbelievable?! The God who made everything and sustains everything comes to live with ME! and YOU!

Lately, I have been overwhelmed thinking about the impact of what that means and the power of Jesus.

Jesus is the Messiah, the One powerful enough to make demons shake and mountains move and gentle enough to meet me right where I am with mercy and defeats any shame, guilt, fear or anything else that holds me captive.

As Jesus Followers we can walk in that same authority. We can walk with confidence into any situation because of Who Jesus is and what His name can do.
It’s the ultimate name drop!!!

Yet, I don’t think I really walk in that authority when I need a mountain to move or anxiety to leave. Do you? I worry, overthink, pray, worship, talk to friends but I’m not sure if I really believe in and stand on the power of His name.

If it’s about who we know, then we know Someone Who is pretty powerful! We may need to start dropping His name more to see things changed! Are you in??

So, let me ask you the same question, who do you say Jesus is? Is He a miracle worker that showed God’s love to the world? Is He your Savior? Your Lord? Is He strong enough to move mountains? Does the name of Jesus have the power to change you and your situation?

I want my mountains to move and any thing coming against me to shake with fear at the powerful name of Jesus!

Thank You Jesus, for the power we have in Your name!

I wish you the most wonderful day walking in the power of the name of Jesus!
All My Love ~
