Seasons

Well, our baby just engaged! We are thrilled and a little emotional. It will be our last kid getting married. Our last time seeing them sing and act out “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You” from Mulan at a family wedding. Our last time running around crazy and getting all the things decided and done. And seriously, we are running around because they are getting married on April 10th. Yup. She wants her sister and her family to be there before they move to Maine. Oh yeah! My other daughter and her family are moving at the end of April to Maine - with our three grandkids.

I’m fine. We’re fine. It’s fine.

Life is like that at times, isn’t it. It just comes at you like a linebacker. It may not be bad, but change is change and we may need a moment to get back on our feet again.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talks about there being a time for everything: birth & death, kill & heal, weep & laugh…
And sometimes our seasons overlap and we hold both weeping and laughing at the same time.

Through it all - all the changes and seasons in our lives, God remains faithful. He remains the same. He doesn’t change. Who He was when He created the world is who He today. How comforting!!!!! He is constant. He is our foundation that holds us steady when we start swaying from the whirlwind around us or in us.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Every. Season. Is. Beautiful.

The hard ones. The sad ones. The happy ones. The excitement of a new one. The grieving of one ending.

One of my favorite Scriptures is Deuteronomy 7:9: “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.”

What an amazing promise! We can always know that will be there for us and our family!
The only thing is: are we loving Him and being obedient? That’s a personal thing between each of us and God. Maybe we should take a minute and have a check-in with Him and ask.

OK, now that we have done that, let’s get back to it.

“And I will give you treasures hidden in darkness - secret riches.
I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the One Who calls you by name.”
~ Isaiah 45:3

I have been looking for those treasures in my life. Another word for darkness here is obscurity. We can all feel obscure to those around us. We can feel passed over, forgotten, alone, lonely, misunderstood. We can feel like whatever our current season is we are alone in it.

Maybe we can’t feel like we can celebrate the way we want to because of the grief, sadness or frustration of those around us. Maybe we feel like we’ve talked too much about where we are at, others are sick of listening. Maybe we don’t quite have the words to express how we feel.

God sees you in those moments, those seasons. He not only sees you, but has a secret treasure waiting for you there.

The faithful God sees you in your season!

He is waiting for you in those quiet minutes you take just to breathe or cry or dance. He is calling at to you to join Him there.

I’m excited to see what treasure He has for me as I walk through this next month of change with all it’s emotions of joy and sadness; celebration and good-byes; the busyness of wedding planning and the quiet moments drawing pictures and playing with my grandkids.

He holds me in both and because of His faithfulness and love, I know I am not alone.
We are not alone. Look for your treasure in your season!

Stand strong, loved one!
