Broken Masterpiece

Hey Guys! Dean did a great job last week and will be back. He will be a hard act to follow, but I’ll do my best. Have you heard of or seen Kintsugi? I read about it a while ago and have been taken with the beauty and simplicity of it.

Kintsugi is Japanese art that takes broken pottery and puts the pieces back together with gold around the broken pieces. The cracks aren’t hidden, they’re emphasized. Something that was once broken and unusable is now a work of art, not because of perfection but because of the brokenness being transformed.

I think that is beautiful, to take what someone would throw away and make it a masterpiece. In Ephesians 2:10 it says: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (NLT)

That brings me such hope! I am not discarded or disqualified because I’m broken.

I know we all can relate to feeling broken, cracked and maybe unusable. Sometimes the people in our lives can be part of the healing process, and I am grateful for each person in my life that has been a part of that. For me, God has been the master artist in my life.

He took what most people looked at as broken and unusable and put me together with His words of life and love.

I remember as a young Christian one night laying in bed and feeling so lonely and I read John 15:15&16 “…I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will last.”

The first broken piece was restored with gold. I was overwhelmed that this Jesus, who I knew only peripherally, chose ME to be His friend. Slowly the transformation began.

He began to restore each piece of my broken heart, my lack, shame, mistrust, doubt and fear. Time and time again He showed up in my life, even when I questioned His choices or I was mad. If my life was an actual piece of art, with all these cracks and broken pieces put back together with gold, I’d be worth a fortune.

So many people I know are going through such difficult things in life. Things that have us broken and our knees buckling. I can tell you that Jesus is there. I know from my life how steadfast and faithful He is. Not because I read it, but because He has walked beside me. Sometimes He carried me. Sometimes we would sit and He would let me cry, yell or rest.

The thing about change is that it requires something from us. If you want to lose weight it requires changing how you eat and exercising; if you want a degree, you need to go to school; if you want to learn archery, you need a bow and arrow. Same thing here: our lives are worth putting in the effort of changing. Take that next step in believing God’s love for you or what He says about you. What needs to change?

Someone needs to see the beauty of your imperfectly, perfect gold-lined life. I know I do. Let’s take our broken pieces…all of them and lay them down before Jesus and ask Him to do what only He can.

Walk boldly today, knowing your life matters and is making an impact on those around you. We need you!

Have an amazing, fabulous day…and embrace your gold!

All my love ~ Jodi xoxo
