Corona, Elsa & Heels
Panic. Fear. Empty grocery store racks. Cancelled events. The threat is real and the fear is real. We have never seen this before and we don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t need alarmists, we need reason. Being prepared is good, being driven by fear is not helpful.
There are so many things in life that we face for the first time and have no clue how to deal with it.
Cancer. College. Marriage. MS. Lupus. Job. Loss….the list is never ending. As long as we are alive, we will face something new. Even if it’s a great thing, we may have to deal with some fear.
The words “do not fear” are found 365 times in the Bible. It’s almost as if God knew that we would need one promise a day.
Fear has been a comfortable, deceitful companion to me. At 16 I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and slowly fear gave way to being brave, trying new things. I did skits and talked in front of people - sometimes with an interpreter, I changed the oil on a school bus, I re-roofed a house, I climbed a scaffolding to paint the top of a church…then I froze and had to literally be talked down from the ledge. That was a hard no for me, but I climbed up!
We all have done things that we didn’t think we’d be able to do or survive, but we did. We can use that victory the next time we have to face something fearful.
In Frozen 2, Elsa is having to cross a stormy, tumultuous sea. She takes off her shoes and puts her hair in a ponytail. I love that visual. She got serious…no fancy hair-do, no wobbling in heels. She stood flat-footed, stable, grounded and ready to take on that stormy sea.
High heels “spark joy” in my life, any shoes really, but a gorgeous heel, oh man! MS has made my legs weak and numb, so wearing heels are precarious at best. I have a new found respect for being sure-footed. It gives me confidence that I’m not going to fall flat on my face.
Habakkuk 3:19 says: “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go to the heights.” Deer are able to climb rocks, steep mountains and run on many different surfaces. They don’t think, “Oh no! How will I get up there? I hope these hooves work.” They just go.
Whatever battles we face, new or old, are we standing sure, secure and strong? Or are we wobbly, unsure and tossed around by the waves of that storm?
As humans we can do a lot in our own strength but we will get tired and our bravery will give way to fear. God is our source for strength. We can know that whatever we face, whether Corona, cancer or a screaming toddler we are not alone in the fight. Just ask for His help, strength and wisdom.
God is with us today and He will be with us tomorrow. I pray that you will know how much you are loved!
Have a great day and for heaven’s sake wash your hands. ;)
All my love ~ Jodi xoxo
