A Few Thoughts…

I have been reading and thinking a lot about the blood of Jesus lately and I have a few thoughts I’d like to share with you. This may have been good to save for Easter, but why not spend some time at the beginning of the year reminding ourselves just how wonderful Jesus is and all that He’s done for us!

“For I know that it was not with perishable things
such as silver and gold that you were redeemed
from the empty way of life handed down to you
from your ancestors
, but with the precious blood
of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. “
1 Peter 1:18-19 (italics mine)

“…from the empty way of life that was handed down to you from your ancestors.” I really like how that is worded.
The empty way of life.
Think back for a moment to before you followed Jesus. What was your life like? What was missing? What brought you to your knees before Him? I remember the hopelessness I felt. The shame. The insecurity. The uncertainty. Life was chaotic at best and then Jesus.
Jesus changed all that!

He changed that because of what He did on the Cross for me.

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
’Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.’”
John 1:29

“Jesus is the Lamb because He is pure. Unblemished. Innocent. And Jesus is the “Lamb of God” because He came into our world to offer Himself as a sacrifice, to allow His own blood to be shed for you and for me.” (At The Table With Jesus by Louie Giglio)

I never want to forget that Jesus died for ME. I’m not just part of a massive human pile of sin. He sees me and every sin-filled thing I’ve done. He saw it and still said: “Yes, I love you and when my blood was spilled, it was for you.”

Jesus covers all of it. I am clean. I can go to Him with all my mess and His blood has covered me.
I’m so overwhelmed and grateful for Him, His love and His sacrifice for me.
Can someone get me a tissue?

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike
down every firstborn of both people and animals, and
I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt.
I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the
houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.
No destructive plague will touch you
when I strike Egypt.”
Exodus 12:12-13 (Italics mine)

Two quick things here:
We are required to do something. Israel put the lamb’s blood on their doorposts, we are to apply Jesus’ blood to our lives and our sin. We do that by confessing Him as our Lord and Savior and receiving His forgiveness.
We are protected. Jesus’ blood protects us from the enemy by giving us access to His power by paying for and covering our sin. Not only are we protected from spiritual death, we are protected now. You guys! This is a good time for a confetti gun!

Do we get what that means?? We no longer have to be afraid of the big, bad wolf and things that go bump in the middle of the night. All we need to say is “See that? Yeah, that’s the blood of Jesus so step back. I’m covered. I’m His. You have no authority in my life.”

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony…”
Revelation 12:11a

We have been given power and authority to be able to defeat the enemy of our souls. We speak the truth about what Jesus has done in our lives and we apply His blood to our sin.
Bada Bing Bada boom.

I may need someone to remind me of this if 2024 starts hitting as hard as 2023, but I want to walk in all the power and authority I have BECAUSE of what Jesus did for me. It’s not my strength or good planning or genius ideas that will make it happen, it’s all Jesus! And I’m so grateful for that. How about you?

Go out there and have a wonderful day, knowing you are forgiven and protected by a Loving Savior who died for you.

All My Love ~
