Sunrise
I walk in the morning Monday - Friday at 6:00 am with some wonderful ladies. In the winter it is hard to wake up and go knowing how dark it would be. I bundle up in my hat and gloves with a scarf around my face to protect me from the cold and wind. (I’ve always been a baby with the cold.) The last couple of weeks we started seeing the sun peek through the dark, early morning sky. I’ve missed seeing the sunrise.
One morning as I was watching the colors burst through the darkness I thought of Revelation 4 where it talks about the throne of God. As you read these verses let your mind paint a picture of the majesty and magnificence of it all.
“And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. “ v.3
“From the throne came came flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder…” v.5
“Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.” v. 6
Can you imagine seeing that sight? Even as gorgeous and magnificent sunrises, sunsets, mountain tops overlooking the beauty around it are, they could never compare to the throne of God.
Revelation 1 tells us that John was on the island of Patmos and while spending time with God saw a vision and he heard someone talking. Let’s pick up there at v.12-17:
“I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.
His head and hair were white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.
His feet were like bronze glowing in the furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.
In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword.
His face was like the sun shining in all it’s brilliance.”
Once again…can you imagine!?!?
No wonder John says in the beginning of Verse 17: “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead…”
The power and majesty of Jesus had to be more than anyone of us could have handled. I am awestruck at both of these descriptions. It stops us in our tracks and reminds us that we have a God so brilliant, so big that He uses Earth to rest His feet.
He has the power to break through the darkness with His presence.
As amazing as that is, here’s the part I really love!
“…Then he placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Don’t be afraid.
I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold
I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the key
of death and Hades.’” vs.17-18
Jesus, with all His power and might, is still gentle and loving and compassionate. He cares about how John is doing.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid.
Maybe you need to hear that today. Maybe you need to know that your Savior is not dead. He is risen and powerful and we don’t have to be afraid.
We don’t have to be afraid of the dark moments we walk through because “His face is like the sun shining in all it’s brilliance.” He lights the darkness and shows us the way.
Oh! And, by the way, Jesus tells John that He has the keys. The keys that will free us from eternal torment and separation from Him. He defeated death for us so we can live fully and wholly.
I think the majesty and power of these two descriptions is to bring us reverence not fear. To bring us hope and peace in the midst of the hard and dark times we face.
I hope that it does that for you today. I hope you can remind yourself in those moments of doubt of the power and brilliance of our God and also how very much you are loved by Him!
Have the most amazing day!
All My Love,
~ Jodi
