Reset
I love watching the Olympics! I’m here for all of it! I love seeing all the athletes so proud to compete and represent their countries and doing what they trained and sacrificed for. I love hearing their stories. I love that women of all different shapes and sizes are being celebrated. I even got Jade and Jayla clapping and cheering on the USA. :)
As I was listening to Simon Biles share about what it took her to come back after what happened in Tokyo and focusing on her mental health.
Then Suni Lee telling us about her Kidney diseases and it wasn’t until January she even started to train for the Olympics and wasn’t sure if she would even make the team.
I thought about the reset they had to do daily to face the pain, frustration, reality, failures which lead to their successes.
We get that same opportunity to reset and challenge the difficulties in our lives.
It is believed that Jeremiah wrote Lamentations because he was there during the time of Jerusalem’s fall and when the Temple was burned. Chapter 3 begins in verse 1 with: “I am a man who has seen affliction…”
We can relate to Jeremiah here. I think we can agree, that we have seen affliction at some point in our lives. We have walked through times of distress and drought. When our souls have felt barren.
We can understand the desperation of Simone and Suni as they felt their dreams slip through their fingers like sand and having no idea how it was going to end.
BUT in verses 21-26 the writer brings himself and us hope:
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him. to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” (italics mine)
Each day is a new beginning. We don’t need to carry the weight of yesterday.
One thing I’m working on getting better at is to name the things. Don’t just say life is hard or everything sucks, but to name what is hard, why that sucks. We can’t walk in generalities. We need to be specific so we can zone in and focus on that thing and leave room to be present and find joy in the other areas of our lives. We can hold both. Otherwise, we can have an Eeyore vibe that doesn’t show the hope we have in God even in the midst of difficulty.
The reset happens when we acknowledge where we’re at, what we’re feeling and allow God to meet us and heal us there.
The Bible is full of God’s people having long and detailed dissertations or explanations of all the things happening in their lives. Think about all the major players we read about and how God has seen to it we know the who, what, why and where’s of their stories. Why then, do we think we need to be “stoic, chin up or have a stiff upper lip” with God and not be honest with what’s happening in our lives or how we are feeling.
He wants to be a part of the journey with us. He wants us to come to Him with it all and lean into Who He is and what He can do in our lives.
No matter what happened during the day or if you limped your way to bed last night, God has new mercy for you today! You get a reset. You get to choose to do the hard work. You get to choose to believe in God and trust that He will come through for you.
I am grateful that each day is a new beginning to reset my goals. To reset my attitude. To reset my affections. To reset what I focus on and give energy to. To reset how I love and walk with God. To reset how I love and serve my family and those around me.
I heard an announcer say after the race where Gabby Thomas won the gold say, “It’s all about how you lean into it at the beginning of the race.”
Let’s LEAN IN, RESET and GO!
