So, I Just Sit With It
Do you have a favorite place you like to meet with God? Or a regular spot you meet a friend for coffee, lunch or a walk? Or how about a place that holds special memories for you? I do! AND Jesus did!
“When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed
the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an Olive grove, and he and his
disciples went to it. Now, Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because
Jesus had often met there with his disciples.” John 18:1&2 (italics mine)
On what was probably the worst night of His life, Jesus picked a spot of familiarity and comfort to talk to and wrestle with God.
I have found that it is crucial in my walk with God to create a space of comfort and familiarity to meet with God, wrestle things out and to find out who I am in Him.
In this season of my life, depending on time and what is happening that day, I have a long and short version of my “Olive Grove” time with God. The dogs know my routine and wait for me to get all things ready before they settle in next to me. :) The habit of my routine leaves space for flexibility but also creates a cavity when I skip a day or two. I cannot go too long without needing to get back to it.
I am in awe every day when I read the Bible, that God would write down His Words and heart for me to get to know Him. To know how much I am loved, that my value and worth comes from Him alone and what It looks like to be a Jesus-Follower.
I have learned that He is not afraid of my questions, fears, anger, doubt.
I love how Jesus met the women in the Bible, Mary and Martha, the Samaritan Woman, Mary Magdalene and many more, where they were at. He understands our responsibilities, our seasons of life, the things that weigh us down, keep us up at night and make us smile and laugh.
He looked them in eye, spent time with them and addressed the issues of their hearts and pointed them to God.
I have also learned that I can trust God’s authority with the details of my life.
Not when I get a answer or understanding about a situation, because I don’t have that a lot of the time…most of the time…ok, probably never. BUT I can trust Him.
So, I just sit with it.
I sit with the frustration. I sit with the disappointment. I sit with the anger. I sit with the win and the loss.
Sitting is hard. It requires a stillness. It can feel lonely sitting with it. No one knows the weight of what you’re sitting with. No one knows what it took to get out of bed and be you today.
BUT GOD does. Jesus does. Holy Spirit does.
Another thing I have learned is that Jesus has all I need for every situation.
Check out verses 4-6 in John 18:
“Jesus knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them,
’Who is it you want?’ ’Jesus of Nazareth,’ they replied.
’I am he,’ Jesus said.
(and Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)
When Jesus said, ‘I am he,’ they drew back and fell to the ground.” (italics mine)
Let’s sit here a minute. See what I did there? ;) Jesus just had the biggest wrestling match in His life. So much so that He sweat drops of blood. He met with God and came to a place of peace of what needed to happen.
He was walking in all the power and authority that was His.
Just by Jesus declaring that “I am he” they took a step back and fell to the ground! Can you imagine the power that surged out of Him to make that happen??
Why do I think His power and authority is not enough for what I am facing?
That’s why I can say that I trust God’s authority with the details of my life.
By Jesus saying “I AM” ~ He is declaring all He is, since before the beginning of time. All I need is found in Him. He needs nothing outside of Himself to meet my needs. At that moment when He declared “I AM” they were hit with all of Who He was!
I don’t know what you’re sitting with, but I know that Jesus’ declaration of “I Am” can make it take a step back and fall to the ground. His declaration of “I Am” can fill you will all you need to face the weight and the struggle your sitting with. His declaration of “I Am’ will empower to walk in His authority with boldness and confidence.
And I pray that you will go to a place of comfort and familiarity to have your own “Grove Time” with God. Where you can sit and wait or wrestle with God.
You are seen and loved by your Heavenly Father!
I hope you have the most amazing day!
All My Love ~
